George Chavez, Jr

George Chavez, Jr., age 92, passed away November 6, 2024. George was born in Torreon, NM, August 18, 1932, to Feliceta and George Chavez, Sr. He moved to Albuquerque with his family as a small child where he resided until his passing.

George attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and graduated from Albuquerque High School. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served aboard the USS Philippine Sea. Upon returning to Albuquerque, he was employed by Jill's Bakery until its closure. He was then employed by the City of Albuquerque until his retirement in 1997. George was a very hardworking man. He was a kind man with a great sense of humor who loved his sports, especially the St. Louis Cardinals and UNM Lobos. Most of all he loved his family with all his heart and devoted his life to them.

George is survived by his wife of 66 years Gloria, daughter Jolene Smith and husband Ron and daughter Marianne Anaya and husband Dale. He is also survived by his granddaughter Nicole Mead and husband Brandon, granddaughter Lauryn Anaya and his step granddaughter Carrie Burns and husband Mitch and their children Khyler, Taylor and Boston. George is also survived by his brotherin-law Andy Romero and wife Pauline and sister-in-law Jeanne Cuaron and husband Gilbert.

George is preceded in death by his parents, brother Adilaido, sister Felia, nephew Gilbert and by his beloved granddaughter Emily Smith.

Special thanks to Amber and her caring staff at BeeHive Homes and to Compassus Hospice R.N. Zyola and her team. There will be a visitation from 9:30-10:00 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at FRENCH-Lomas followed by a burial where George will be laid to rest at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
