George S. Corliss, 77, passed away peacefully in his home on April 7, 2025.
Born in Fall River, MA on January 12, 1948, to the late James D. Corliss and Carolyne M. (Jarvais) Corliss, George was the seventh son in a family of nine children. George was a 1966 graduate of Coyle-Cassidy High School and a lifelong resident of Taunton. He worked as a postal clerk in the Taunton Post Office for 33 years. He also served in the Army Reserves as a Medic and as a young man earned the Eagle Scout award. After retiring from the post office, George proudly worked as Custodian of Buildings for the Holy Family Parish in East Taunton.
A peaceful family man, George enjoyed the quiet and beauty he found when tending his garden, and the laughter and love he experienced when spending time with his grandchildren. As a young man, George aspired to be a musician and played in the Coyle-Cassidy band. He played guitar, saxophone, harmonica, and clarinet. In his later years, George enjoyed scuba diving, boating, and traveling with his wife.
With his charm, mischievous personality, and great sense of humor, George was known for bringing joy to people by making them laugh. His laughter will be missed, and his tender-hearted love will be cherished---always.
George is survived by his loving wife, Therese "Terri" (Hotte) Corliss; his 2 daughters Jeannine Terra (Jeffrey) and Deborah MacNeill (Joseph); his grandchildren, David MacNeill (Gabi), Samuel and Sofia Terra; his great-granddaughter, Lily MacNeill; his siblings Richard (Joanne), Norman (Donna), and Carolyne Lang (Robert), and his many nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends. George is predeceased by siblings James, Thomas, Alvah, Gregory and Leonard Corliss.
Visitation hours will be held on Sunday, April 13, 2025, from 2:00-5:00pm at Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay St., Taunton. The Funeral Mass will take place on Monday, April 14, 2025, at 12:00pm at Holy Family Parish 372 Middleboro Avenue, East Taunton, followed by a burial at St. Joseph's Cemetery, 475 E. Britannia St., Taunton.
George's family would like to thank the Hospice Services of Massachusetts for the compassionate and loving care they provided. George's wishes were to have donations made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis TN 38105 or at https://www.stjude.org/ or to Dana-Faber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place, W 6th floor, Brookline MA 02445 or at http://www.dana-farber.org/
