George Allen Dinn, 71, of Columbus, passed away suddenly on a fishing trip in Somerset, Kentucky, on April 21, 2025. Born on February 26, 1954, in Columbus, Indiana, the son of Leo and Mamie (Huff) Dinn. George was known for his unwavering dedication to his work, his love for sports and the outdoors, and his commitment to serving his community. He married Deborah Ann Brown on May 16, 1981. She survives.
After graduating from Columbus High School in 1973, where he made the All-State Football Team, George pursued further education at Butler University, where he was also a member of the football team. His early career saw him exploring various opportunities, but he eventually found his calling at Frank Anderson Tire Company. George dedicated nearly three decades to the company, where he was esteemed by colleagues and customers alike for his integrity and expertise as a Sales Manager.
George's passion for nature was evident to all who knew him. He found solace and joy in fishing, a hobby that allowed him to embrace the tranquility of the outdoors. His love for the environment extended to his home, where he cultivated a bountiful garden, tending to his vegetables and flowers with a gentle and patient hand.
His commitment to the well-being of his community was reflected in his long-standing service as a board member for the Eastern Bartholomew County Water Corporation. For almost 40 years, George contributed his time and wisdom to ensure the provision of clean and reliable water to his neighbors and friends. He was also involved with the Columbus Indiana Huey Organization, helping people to experience flying on the historic helicopter.
In his leisure time, George was an active member of the Columbus East Football Chain Gang, where he enjoyed the camaraderie and the opportunity to give back to the local sports community. His presence on the sidelines was a testament to his belief in teamwork and his support for the youth of Columbus. Over the years, he was also on several local softball, basketball, and bowling teams.
George is survived by his loving wife and children, John Dinn of Columbus, Anna (Erik) Anderson of St Clair Shores, Michigan, siblings, Dorothy Pope, Luretta Pope, Mary (David) Nickerson, David (Charlotte) Dinn, and Steven Dinn along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Charles Dinn, Kay Nix, and Charlotte Welton.
Services will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at Jewell Rittman Family Funeral Home with Mike Cooney officiating. Calling hours will be from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at Jewell Rittman Family Funeral Home.
