Obituary published on Legacy.com by Pennington Funeral Home - San Marcos on Sep. 23, 2025.
George "Tooter" Doherty Sr., age 87 of Canyon Lake, TX passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 21, 2025.

Tooter was born on January 29, 1938 in Buda, Texas to Cotton and Pearl Doherty. On May 11, 1958, he married the love of his life Stella Mae Cason Doherty, with whom he shared 66 wonderful years until her passing.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Stella and brother Dooley "Biggun" Doherty,

Tooter is survived by his son Dale Doherty, and daughters Connie Henry and Diane Newsom. He leaves behind a legacy of love carried on by his grandchildren Cody, Dusty, Kayla, Jessica, Misti, Chelsea and Brandon-as well as numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Tooter worked for Night Hawk for over 30 years before retiring. Outside of work, he lived a full life surrounded by the things he loved most. An avid hunter and fisherman, he spent many weekends outdoors, often camping at Potters Creek with family and friends. His love for nature and the outdoors was only surpassed by the love he had for his family.

Tooter lived a great life and will be remembered for his hard work, adventurous spirit and devotion to those he loved.

The family will receive friends and family on Friday, September 26, 2025 at Pennington Funeral Home from 5:00-7:00 pm. Graveside services will be Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 2:00 pm at Barton Cemetery, Buda, Texas.

We went hunting and fishing quite a bit. I remember one time at a tank in Laredo where we caught about 60 black bass. They were all small because the tank was overloaded. But it was fun catching them. Another time we were at a pasture near Blanco where I had cattle and we got hungry, so we shot a jackrabbit, built a fire, and cooked it. There were many times that we were with Mister Tooter either fishing, hunting or practicing shooting our pistols. He was a good friend. Our dad always called him George.
