George Robert Eeds, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, went home to be with Jesus on June 11, 2025, in Houston, following a brief illness. He leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and spirited generosity. George was born on October 23, 1942, in Alpine, Texas, and spent his early years in Saudi Arabia and Libya with his parents, Aileen and Bob Eeds, and his brother, Walter.
George remained connected to his overseas roots through the "Aramco Brats" community. He attended San Marcos Baptist Academy, graduating in 1960 as a standout athlete in baseball, football, and basketball-later earning induction into the SMBA Athletic Hall of Fame.
He met the love of his life, Susan Mitchell, at age 15, and the two were married on August 28, 1965, in Houston. George graduated from Texas A&M University in 1964 with a degree in Civil Engineering and later earned a second degree in Architectural Construction at Texas A&M University. As a member of the Corps of Cadets Company G2, he embodied leadership and discipline.
George proudly served as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, earning the Bronze Star for his distinguished service. A\er returning home, he embraced his passion for aviation as a private pilot, flying a range of aircraft-including a Stearman biplane, an L-19 Bird Dog, and most recently, a Cirrus. His love for flying led him on family adventures, volunteer missions with Angel Flight, appearances at the EAA Oshkosh Air Show, and festive July 4th flyovers. Many of these flights took off from Rusty Allen Airport in Lago Vista, a place that became central to his flying life.
In 1981, George and his family settled in Lago Vista, Texas, a\er many years in Houston. There, he built a home on Lake Travis-fondly known as "Camp George"-where, alongside his family and beloved dogs, he welcomed friends with open arms, taught countless guests to water ski, and created space for joy and community. He served the Lago Vista community with pride, including ten years on the LVISD school board. Known for his servant's heart, infectious laughter, and boundless hospitality, George had a gift for making everyone feel like family.
George and Susan spent much of their retirement cruising the San Juan Islands aboard their boat, Reveille, sharing countless adventures with friends and family. George especially loved riding for miles through the islands on his bike, taking in the beauty of the Pacific Northwest. The region became a cherished second home, where they embraced the cooler weather, breathtaking scenery, and formed lasting friendships within the boating community.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Anson Eeds and Aileen Carter Eeds; his nephew, Robert Anson Eeds II; and his sister-in-law, Priscilla Warwick Eeds. He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Susan Mitchell Eeds; his daughters, Jennifer Eeds Cooksey and her husband, Rob, with their children, Grace and Mitchell, and Suzanne Eeds Millender and her husband, Kirk, with their children, Lindy, Garrison, and Jaclyn; his brother, Walter Eeds; and his nephew, Evan Eeds.
A private burial with military honors will be held in Houston. A Celebration of life will follow on Saturday, June 21st in Lago Vista. All who knew and loved George are welcome to attend.
