It is with very heavy hearts that we announce George T. Eichner passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on October 6, 2024 at the age of 88. George was a loving husband, father, grandfather and soon-to-be great-grandfather.
George was born on August 13, 1936 to parents Otto and Agnes Eichner. He was raised in The Bronx, New York with his older brother John and younger sister Nancy. He graduated with a bachelor's degree (BSEE) in Electrical Engineering from Manhattan College (1958) and later earned his master's degree from the University of Florida. George retired from the Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division (NAWCTSD) where he worked as an electrical engineer for over 30 years.
George was a devout Catholic who loved to serve the Lord and his fellow man. He was an active, faithful parishioner of Saint Mary Magdalen Catholic Church since 1966, serving as a Sacristan for over twenty years. Sir George was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus. He went on many mission trips including building houses in the Dominican Republic, as well as assisting victims of the Hurricane Katrina flood in New Orleans, and many other service trips. He was very active with Habitat for Humanity, helping to build homes within his community. His compassion was further demonstrated when he spearheaded a clothing drive for the homeless. His presence in his Church and the community will be missed immensely.
George also loved to travel and did so extensively with his wife of 64 years, Ann. They traveled
to six of the seven continents, omitting Antarctica only by choice. He loved the beach, living
part-time at New Smyrna Beach for over 25 years and living there full time for a year before
moving back to his Church family. In recent years he was able to spend many winters on Hilton
Head Island. But his most cherished times were those surrounded by his family; his wife, their
five children and their spouses and, of course, the grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Eichner; his sister Nancy (Eichner) Tirone; all five of his children,
Greg (Mary Beth) Eichner, Alison (Keith) Milford, Gwen (Ted) Thomas, Stephen Eichner, Leigh Ann (Richard) Holt; and his fourteen grandchildren, Ben Milford, Brian Thomas, Alexandra (Milford) Rees, Victoria (Thomas) Holmberg, Christopher Holt, Amanda Eichner, Monica Eichner, Austin Thomas, Samatha Holt, Geoffrey Eichner, Caroline Holt, Nickolas Eichner, John Eichner, and Roman Eichner. George was preceded in death by his parents, Otto C. Eichner and Agnes C. (Fleming) Eichner and his brother John C. Eichner.
The family will receive family and friends on Wednesday, October 16 from 6pm to 8pm at the DeGusipe Funeral Home & Crematory at 9001 N. Orlando Ave, Maitland, FL 32751. A Vigil service will begin at 7pm.
A funeral Mass is scheduled at Saint Mary Magdalen Catholic Church at 861 Maitland Avenue, Altamonte Springs, FL 32701 for Thursday, October 17 th at noon. Father Edwin Cardona will preside over the service. A celebration of George's life will follow at the clubhouse at Oak Harbor. All are welcome to attend. The Rite of Committal will be on Friday, October 18, 2024, 10:00 am at Queen of Angels Cemetery at San Pedro Center for those who wish to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either The Knights of Columbus
2024 Vocations Fundraiser, GROW Healthy Kids or a charity of your choice.
