Obituary published on Legacy.com by Gleason Funeral Home of North Brunswick (Formerly Selover) on Dec. 19, 2024.
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of George S. Elghossain, who peacefully transitioned on Saturday, December 14th, at the age of 75.
George was born in Zahle, Lebanon, as the second child of Sarkis and Elaine (Achram) Elghossain. After graduating from the American University of Beirut, he emigrated to the United States in 1974 to continue his education, earning a Master's degree in Business from Loyola University in Maryland. He and his beloved wife, Mona, built their home in the greater New Brunswick and North Brunswick area, where they raised their family and spent more than 40 joyful years together. In the last seven years of his life, George and Mona relocated to North Carolina embracing a new chapter with warmth and love.
A true entrepreneur at heart, George built a life marked by hard work, perseverance, and generosity. He began his professional journey working for the Township of New Brunswick and later became a real estate broker with Weichert Realtors. With vision and dedication, George developed an impressive portfolio of rental properties and opened several businesses in New Brunswick. He proudly owned Sam's Chicken, GME Auto Center, and West End Grill.
George was deeply connected to his roots and Lebanese heritage. He was a founding member of St. Sharbel Maronite Catholic Church in
Somerset, NJ, where he gave his time and resources to support its growth. As a proud Lebanese American, George held immense love for both Lebanon and the United States. He spoke passionately about Lebanon's rich history, culture, and its many contributions to the world to anyone he connected with, always eager to share his pride and knowledge. As Director of Arab American Broadcasting for Ethnic-American Broadcasting Company (EABC), he traveled to over 25 Arab countries, bringing cultural television programs to audiences in the United States.
George's true legacy lies in the lives he touched. Being a devoted husband, father, and grandfather was his greatest pride and joy. He was a natural teacher who took it upon himself to help others. Whether assisting Lebanese families settle in a new country, supporting individuals in starting businesses, or offering guidance through legal matters-he was a guide, advocate, and friend to many.
George enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He had a deep love for gardening, planting fruit trees and vegetables with love. A lifelong learner, he found joy in acquiring new skills and exploring novel ideas. His curiosity and thirst for knowledge even led him to teach himself many types of law, a testament to his determination and passion for learning. George also loved world history, politics, and sci-fi, particularly Star Trek, which brought him moments of wonder and escape. Above all, spending time with his grandchildren brought him unmatched happiness, and he cherished every moment he had with them.
George was predeceased by his brothers, Antione and Michael Elghossain. He is survived by his loving wife, Mona (Chamoun), his children: Elaine Maneen, Reema Elghossain, Rula Hill and her husband Prescott, and Tony Elghossain and his wife Stephanie. He also leaves behind his sister, Elham, and six beloved grandchildren: Xavier, Ava, Christopher, Lena, Gabriella, and Michael, who will carry his memory forward with love and pride.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in George's memory to St. Sharbel's Church or the Lebanese Red Cross at https://donate.redcrossredcrescent.org/lb/supportLRC/~my-donation.
George's life was one of purpose, love, integrity, and generosity. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, wisdom, and kindness-a life well-lived and deeply cherished by all who knew him.
A formal visitation will take place on Saturday, December 21st, at Saint Sharbel Maronite Catholic Church in
