George Gantt Obituary
George Noble Gantt, 99, of Columbia, South Carolina, passed away on December 24, 2023, in Raeford, North Carolina. He was born on August 3, 1924. George was a hardworking and intelligent man who took pride in his achievements. He began his career working for USPS and later started a successful dry-cleaning business in Brooklyn, which expanded to Queens. Despite coming from a humble background, George accomplished great things throughout his life.
George's wife Rose introduced him to Jehovah's Witnesses in the early 1970s. He would eventually study the Bible with Norman Perry who would later become a close friend. George became one of Jehovah's Witnesses on March 27, 1977, and associated with the Rosedale Congregation in Queens, New York. George and Rose retired to North Carolina to be near family and expand their ministry. George served as an elder and regular pioneer in the Hope Mills Congregation for over 30 years. George was beloved in his congregation and was known as a good listener who chose his words carefully and always had a spiritual thought from the Bible to share with others.
In addition to his successful career and religious dedication, George had a rich personal life. He was an incredibly proud and resourceful man who loved life and had a wealth of knowledge and experience to share. George was known for being a good storyteller, always focusing on life lessons and sharing his ideas with others. He was a loving husband to his late wife, Rose Mae Gantt, and cherished his family deeply. George is survived by his beloved daughters, Barbara Brown and Alison Gantt, as well as his sons, Calvin Wilder, Melvin Wilder, and Kenneth Wilder. He also leaves behind numerous grandchildren and great- grandchildren who were dear to his heart.
George was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Rose Mae Gantt, his son, George Michael Gantt, his daughters, Marilyn Lewis and Theresa Mark, his sisters, Mamie Gantt, Inez A. Gantt Lee, Lillie Bell Gantt Brown, and Josephine Gantt, as well as his mother, Mary Greatheart Barnes, and his father, John Wesley Gantt. Their memories will forever be cherished.
George Noble Gantt's presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His intelligence, pride, resourcefulness, and love for life made a lasting impact on those around him. May his legacy live on through the stories he shared, the knowledge he imparted, and the love he showed to his family and community.
The family would like to thank everyone for their loving support and encouragement. A special thanks to the caregivers for the hard work and love shown toward George.
