George Holtzclaw Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Broussard's Mortuary - Major Drive on Dec. 17, 2025.
George Andrew Holtzclaw, a longtime resident of Nederland, Texas, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2025, at the age of 75 after an eight-month battle with cancer, surrounded by the love and support of his family, friends, and neighbors.

Born on August 2, 1950, in Port Arthur, Texas, George was the youngest of five children of Gordon Thomas and Margie Robinson Holtzclaw. He grew up in Port Arthur and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School. While attending Lamar University, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and proudly served for two years. Upon returning, he completed his degree at Lamar before beginning a 42-year career at the Fina Refinery (later Total) in Port Arthur. At retirement, he was one of only two employees with longer tenure on site. George spent most of his career in the Boiler House and retired as the number one Operator.

George's passions were Corvettes, pool, movies, and music. He owned three Corvettes over the years-a 1979, a 2015, and most recently a 2024 model. In lieu of traditional living room furniture, he chose a pool table as the centerpiece of his home, where he loved hosting friends and reminiscing about tournament days. His vast collections of movies and music spanned genres and decades. To his many nieces and nephews, Uncle George-with his Corvettes and pool table-was undeniably the coolest uncle ever, a title he still holds today.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon Thomas and Margie Holtzclaw; his brother, Doug Holtzclaw, and sister-in-law, Ann; and his sisters, Jo Ann Holtzclaw and Virginia Holtzclaw Chin.

He is survived by his brother, Gordon Thomas Holtzclaw, Jr. and sister-in-law, Catherine, of Beaumont, as well as numerous loving nieces and nephews.

The family extends deepest gratitude to George's neighbors for their extraordinary kindness and support throughout his illness. Their compassion and willingness to help touched him deeply and meant the world to his family. As George often said, "You never know what great neighbors you have until something like this happens."

In keeping with George's wishes, he will be cremated, and a private family gathering will be held.

His cremation arrangements were handled through Broussard's Crematorium under the direction of Broussard's, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, Maryland 21741, in his name.
