George spent 25 years working for the state in the Health Department, but his true calling came after retirement when he served as a chaplain in Hospice care, touching countless lives in the Jennings community during their final moments. He was passionate about guiding people to conversion and salvation. He also volunteered his time to reverently pray with those at the Jeff Davis Parish Jail, Jennings Hospital, Jeff Davis Assisted Living Center, and the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Home.
At home, he loved watching football games (often accidentally fast-forwarding through the biggest plays of the game) and spending time with his grandchildren and family. He cherished "fellowship" with his many friends, his large family, and rounds of golf with Kent. Often, you'd find him with a stash of Tootsie Pops, peanut M&M's, and some warm oatmeal cookies from Keller's Bakery.
George rarely missed daily Mass and remained steadfast in his Catholic faith, setting an incredible example for his family. He was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus and the St. Joseph's Men's Group which fosters men in their family life. In addition to his faith, George, known by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as Podsey, was loved for his wisdom and advice, whether you asked for it or not. He found great joy in guiding those he loved, and his family will deeply miss his direction.
At the heart of George's life was his love for his wife, Suzie. Together, they demonstrated what it meant to love faithfully and to follow the Lord, creating a legacy that shaped their children and the family they built together. Since the day his Suzie was welcomed into Heaven, George patiently awaited his time to join her. His family is comforted knowing they're together again and feel a deep peace -and even joy - imagining their Heavenly reunion.
George is survived by his children, Stephanie (Billy) Broussard, Beth (Kent) Daniel, and David (Connie) Houssiere; his grandchildren, Lacey (Roel) Garza, Ross (Paige) Curet, Tyler (Jennifer) Daigle, Phillip (Ashlynn) Daigle, Stewart (Kim) Daigle, Caroline (David) Daigle, John-David (Skylar) Houssiere, Grace Houssiere, and Luke Houssiere; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by the love of his life of 62 years, Suzanne Champagne Houssiere; his siblings, Charles R. Houssiere, Marjorie (Margie) Mouton, Juanita (Neet) Duhon, and Eugene P. Houssiere Jr.; as well as his parents, Eugene P. Houssiere Sr. and Marjorie Belaire Houssiere.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home JENNINGS,511 North Cutting Avenue Jennings, Louisiana 70546, 337-824-4420.

Dear Steph, Beth, & David,

Please accept our deepest condolences. Your dad was one of the men I have most respected in my life. He was kind, funny, caring, and always had nice things to say. May he rest in peace. You will all be together again one day. God bless.

Rest in peace, old bulldog teammate. Your contribution to our old home town of Jennings has been noteworthy. Your next reunion will be with your family and old bulldogs who are waiting for you. Our prayers are with your kids and grandkids who will carry on your legacy.
Jake and Cynthia Suire. Northern Michigan and Idaho.
