George Lawrence Shields Age 90, of Rice Lake, WI, died Saturday, July 19, 2025 at his home. He was born on October 19, 1934 in Cumberland, WI to Edward and Alma (Nelson) Shields. George graduated from Cumberland High School in 1953 and then attended Purdue University and UW Madison. In his younger years he worked in construction as a laborer, he was in the dairy industry sales for 25 years and then worked for McKenzie Supply and Equipment Company in Rice Lake for many years as a salesman. George loved several sports throughout his life, enjoyed aviation - where he had his own plane and enjoyed the views from up above, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and cross country snow mobile racing. At the top of his list was auto racing, spanning around 40 years. He hired drivers and raced from Canada to Florida. At the age of 65 he started driving for himself for the first time and continued to do so well into his 80's. He was a good man, he loved to share, cared and helped others. Family always came first. He is survived by his wife, Audrey Shields; 6 children; Sharon (Marshall) Greenarch, Susan (Joe) Bennett, Connie Young, Jeff (Coleen) Bender, Kevin (Patty) Bender, Marcus (Erika) Bender; 9 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Amdahl; 2 sisters-in-law, Gayle Wiesner and Judy (Bud) Hover; nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by a son, David Shields; parents, Edward and Alma Shields; 3 brothers, Walter, Lester and Lloyd Shields; 2 sisters, Alice Savage and Gladys Webster; a brother-in-law, Ron Wiesner; 2 sisters-in-law, Lois Widiker and Phyllis Klump. Funeral Services will be held at 11AM Saturday, August 16, 2025 at First Lutheran Church in Rice Lake, Rev. Jon Cluppert officiating, with interment in Pine Grove Cemetery in Cameron, WI. Visitati
