George F. Lenhardt, 81, of Hamilton, passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Hamilton, NJ.
Born in Trenton, Mr. Lenhardt was a lifelong resident of Hamilton, NJ.
George enjoyed traveling, especially to the Florida Keys. He also enjoyed NASCAR but most importantly he loved spending time with his family.
He was an Air Force veteran and active in the Mercer County Fire Departments for over 50 years.
Mr. Lenhardt retired from the Trenton Fire Department after 27 years as Chief Fire Inspector. He was the Mercer County Fire Marshal for 33 years and Assistant Fire Marshal for 7 years. He was Past President and a Life Member of the Mercer County Firemen's Association for 46 years. George was involved with the Colonial Volunteer Fire Company, Fire District 8 in Hamilton township for 55 years, serving as Past Chief, Past President and he held numerous lower ranking offices and committee chairmanships as well. He was Founder, Charter Member, and Past Vice President of the Mercer County Fire Prevention & Protection Association. Mr. Lenhardt was Past President of the Mercer County Fire Chiefs Association and Past Vice President of the Hamilton Township Fire Chiefs Association. George was active in the building committee and Mercer County Fire Training Academy. He was Past Chairman of the Board for the Hamilton Township Fire District 8 Board of Commissioners for 25 years. Mr. Lenhardt was Past Vice President of the NJ State Association of County Fire Marshals, Past President & Past Vice President of the NJ State Fire Chiefs Association. George was also Past Vice President and Past Trustee for the NJ State Association of Fire Districts.
Predeceased by his parents, John and Marie (Groh) Lenhardt Sr.; and his siblings, John, Raymond, William, and Bernard Lenhardt. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Bonnie Lee (Elfreth) Lenhardt; his daughter, Rachel Mahan and her husband, Jason; his siblings, Robert and Joseph Lenhardt; his grandchildren, Mimzy and Hunter Mahan; he is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square, NJ.
Funeral services will begin on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the Saul Colonial Home.
Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Hamilton, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mr. Lenhardt's memory to the New Jersey Firemen's Home, 565 Lathrop Ave., Boonton, NJ 07005.
