George Charles Rushe, Jr. of Dover, Delaware, passed away Monday, February 3rd, 2025. He was 77.
He was born October 6th, 1947, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to the late George Charles Rushe, Sr and Frances Gormerly.
George grew up on a farm in Pittsburgh and graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Shortly after, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Hawaii. Returning to Pittsburgh after service, he ended up working for Mellon Bank and was instrumental in programming the first ATM. George married in 1980, and moved to Dover in 1985 taking a position with Playtex. He was an avid Philadelphia Phillies fan and enjoyed watching the Philadelphia Eagles as well. His greatest pride came in watching his children and grandchildren in their sporting ventures.
George is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Jane A. Rushe of Dover, DE; his children, Michael Rushe (Beth) of Camden, DE, Ryan Rushe of Wilmington, DE, and Caroline Carey (Matthew) of Camden, DE; his sister, Elaine Hafner (Walter) of Pittsburgh, PA; and his grandchildren, Owen, Elle, Claire and Hannah.
Friends and family may gather for condolences beginning at 10:00 am, followed by a memorial service held at 11:00am, Saturday February 8th, 2025, at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover, Delaware.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Holy Cross (631 S State Street, Dover, DE) towards the Holy Cross School athletic program in memory of George.

My sincere condolences to George's family. I worked alongside George ages ago at Mellon in Pittsburgh, and fondly remember wonderful weekends of food and pinochle. My thoughts are with you all.
