George Michael Schnell passed away on March 24th at the age of 64 after being diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer's. He is survived by his wife Karla Schnell, and his brothers William (Nancy) Schnell, Dave (Ann) Schnell, Christopher (Tina) Schnell, nieces Meaghan and Samantha Schnell, nephew Vincent Schnell and stepson Austin Raleigh. He is predeceased by his parents George J. and Margaret Schnell of Dix Hills, New York.
After graduating from St John Fisher University, George went on to work in radio, marketing and sales, spending many of his recent years working for AT&T and Orvilles. He was also very involved in the Rochester karaoke community and was selected as the best run karaoke several times over a more than 20-year career. George was a musician and songwriter whose band, The Royals, has played in Rochester since the early 1980's. He owned a recording studio at the Village Gate in the 1990's and loved helping other artists in Rochester create their dream of producing music. George received a certificate for audio engineering from The Eastman School of Music, and worked as sound engineer for Nik and The Nice Guys.
Calling hours will be TUESDAY, April 2, from 5-8PM at Miller's Funeral Home, 3325 S Winton Road. A Mass will be held at St. Josephs Catholic Church, 43 Gebhardt Road in Penfield on WEDNESDAY, April 3, at 10:30AM. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to lorenzoshouse.org, where proceeds directly assist families and young children of Early Onset Dementias.
