George L. Shepard Sr. was born on September 9, 1937, in Ethel, Louisiana. He lived a life dedicated to his faith and family, embodying a love for God that resonated with everyone who knew him. George passed away peacefully on June 19, 2025, at Sterling Place Healthcare, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by many.
Throughout his career, George made significant contributions to both Louisiana State University (LSU) and the Baton Rouge Recreation and Park Commission (BREC). His work reflected his dedication to serving the community and enhancing the lives of those around him.
George was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy Thompson Shepard, with whom he shared over 63 years of marriage. Together, they created a loving home filled with warmth and compassion. He also mourned the loss of his son, George "June" Shepard, a bond that remains a profound aspect of his life story.
In addition to his immediate family, George leaves behind a host of family and friends who remember him for his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering faith. His presence will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
A funeral service to honor George L. Shepard Sr. will be held on Friday June 27, 2025, at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The service will begin at 11:00am Interment in Southern Memorial Garden. Family and friends are invited to join in celebrating his life and legacy. Full obituary to be posted at later date.
