George W. Steger

George W. Steger, 102, of Daytona Beach Shores, formerly of Maywood, passed away on January 5.
His wife of 52 years, Ethel, predeceased him in 1998. He is survived by his daughter Deb Offerman and her husband Ed, granddaughter Kim Porter and her husband Justin, great-grandchildren Owen and Gavin, and his sister Doris Werner.
George was a graduate of the Engineering Dept. at Pratt Institute of Technology in NYC. Immediately after graduation he entered the US Army, serving in WW Il as an Infantryman achieving the rank of First Sergeant. When the war ended, he was reassigned to the 1st Infantry Division where, as 1st Sergeant, his Company was responsible for guarding the high ranking Nazi officers at the Nuremberg Trials.
George was retired from RCA in Livingston, NJ. He was a member of the American Legion Post 142, Maywood, and a parishioner at the First Presbyterian Church, Maywood.
He was also a member of the Maywood Volunteer Fire Dept for over 70 years and was an Auxiliary member of the North Hudson FD.
Family will receive friends on Friday January 9, 2026 from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm at the Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 113 South Farview Avenue, Paramus, NJ. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at Vander Plaat Memorial Home, Paramus. Interment immediately following at Grove Church Cemetery, North Bergen, NJ.
