George F. Stein, 89, of Minnetonka, passed away on Monday, August 18, 2025. He was born April 7, 1936 in St. Cloud, Minnesota, to Clement and Virginia (Boomer) Stein, received his bachelor's degree and master's degree from St. Cloud State University. George started his teaching career in Litchfield, then moved to the Twin Cities where he taught math to middle schoolers in the St. Louis Park school district for over 35 years. He also coached both wrestling and football for many years. George's membership at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd for over six decades provided him meaningful opportunities for service as a long-time usher and volunteer in his church community. Throughout his life he enjoyed golf, wintering in Arizona, playing cards and socializing, and his great joy in later years was watching his grandsons succeed in sports, music, and education. George is survived by his wife, Betty Kay "BK" Stein, his daughter, Erika Stein, and grandchildren Henry Rosenhagen and Leo Rosenhagen. He is preceded in death by his parents, Clem and Virginia, and his siblings John Stein, Thomas Stein, Mary Woelfel, Virginia "Ginny" Tobin, and Margaret "Marge" Lindenfelser. As an indication of his value for education and benevolence, George enrolled in the Anatomy Bequest Program at the University of Minnesota. The family will conduct private and personal reminiscences. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials to: St. Cloud State University Foundation for the George Stein College of Science and Engineering Scholarship; University of Minnesota Foundation for the Betty Kay and George Stein Scholarship (administered with guidance from the College of Education and Human Development); the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum Foundation; or as the donor prefers. www.washburn-mcreavy.com Eden Prairie Chapel 952-975-0400
