Pepperell - George Townsend Ux, 90, died September 17, 2025, at St. Joseph's Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was born in Everett, MA on January 16, 1935, and was the son of the late Martin L. and Etta Elizabeth (Locke) Ux. He grew up in Wakefield, MA and graduated from Wakefield High School, class of 1952. George leaves behind his wife of 70 years, Joan Ellen (Houghton) Ux. He retired in 1995 after 40 years with the Courier Corporation. After retirement, he launched a second career with the Town of Pepperell Cemetery Department, retiring in 2000. He was Cemetery Superintendent for the Pepperell Corporation Cemetery for many years, retiring in 2016. Throughout his entire life George was dedicated to community service and volunteerism. He was involved in Scouting in Pepperell since 1960. He volunteered with Pack 41 as Cubmaster and Committee Chairman and with Boy Scout Troop 26 as Assistant Scoutmaster, Scoutmaster, Committee Chairman and Committee Member. He received several awards: the Scout Training Award and District Award of Merit from the Nashua Valley Council and the Silver Beaver Award from the Nashua Valley Council in May of 1990. He received congratulations for over 60 years of service from the National Office of the Boy Scouts of America. He served the Town of Pepperell as an Auxiliary Officer, Special Police Officer, Emergency Management Director and Deputy Director. He was honored by the Town of Pepperell in February of 2018, for over 50 years as Emergency Management Director and by PACH Outreach for over 30 years of volunteer service. In 1970 George was nominated and received the Young Man of America Award, presented by the Pepperell Jaycees for Community Service. He was honored by the Pepperell Grange in 1995 for Community Service. He received the Extraordinary Service Award presented by Nashoba Publishing in 2007 for his many years as a volunteer. George was a long-time member of NEMAC Auto Club and was a collector of old cars and collectible cars and trucks as a hobby. He was happiest working in his garage and creating wooden toys for his grandchildren and then great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Joan, he is survived by his three sons, Kenneth George Ux and his wife Pauline of Litchfield, NH, Russell Scott Ux and his wife Teryl of Nashua, NH, and Alan William Ux and his wife Stacey of Hollis, NH; his four grandsons, William Ux and his wife Chelsea of Londonderry, NH, Jason Ux and his wife Lindsay of Goffstown, NH, Gregory Ux and his fiancé Breanne of Boston, MA, and Ryan Ux and his wife Melissa of Las Vegas, NV; his two granddaughters, Rachael Nalley of Simpsonville, NC and Elizabeth Gouveia and her husband Tyler of Nashua, NH; his four great-grandsons, Garrett, Zachary, Declan and Benjamin Ux; his two great-granddaughters, Julia and Ryli Ux, and two sisters-in-law, Sally Tessier and Elizabeth Houghton Maples and her husband Daniel. He was pre-deceased by two brothers-in-law, Donald Houghton Jr. and Ernest Tessier, and a niece, Margaret Piper. Memorial contributions may be made to the Albert Harris Senior Center, 37 Nashua Road, Pepperell, MA 01463, PACH Outreach, P.O Box 1247, Pepperell, MA 01463 or to Boy Scout Troop 26 (Lance Stewart Fund) c/o Scoutmaster James McGowan, 130 Jewett Street, Pepperell, MA 01463. Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. The Anderson Funeral Home, 250 Main St., Townsend, is assisting the family with the funeral arrangements.
