George Norman Valvanis, 67, of Atkinson, New Hampshire, died peacefully on Wednesday, July 17 at High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill, surrounded by his loving family.
He was the son of the late Mary and Norman "Nundy" Valvanis and born on their 2nd wedding anniversary on April 24, 1957. George was raised in a home filled with love, happiness and a strong Greek Orthodox faith.
George dedicated much of his time to volunteering with Rebuilding Together, frequently inviting his family to join him on his birthday, which he considered the best gift. He was a member of AHEPA Chapter 39, served multiple terms as President of the Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church and donated dozens and dozens of donuts and coffee to anyone who asked.
Above all, he cherished moments spent with his family. Whether he was golfing with his three sons or attending Celtics games with his daughter and angel, he felt truly complete when surrounded by his loved ones. George's greatest joy came from being a "Papou" to three grandchildren: Olivia Mary, Vivian Cheryl, and Nundy Robert Valvanis. His heart was full of happiness in their presence.
George leaves behind his wife of 40 years Thea (Samaras) Valvanis, sons George Norman and daughter-in-law Sarah Lucy, Nicholas Tilem, William John, daughter Maria Valessia and son-in-law Robert Dello Russo, grandchildren Olivia Mary, Vivian Cheryl and Nundy Robert Valvanis, brother John and wife Kathy, mother-in-law Calliope B. Samaras, 1 brother and 3 sisters in-law, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend George's calling hours on Monday, July 22 from 5 to 7 PM at H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer Street, Haverhill, MA. His funeral will be Tuesday, July 23, at 11 AM at the Holy Apostles Saints Peter & Paul Greek Orthodox Church, 156 Winter St., Haverhill, interment will follow in the Linwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Atkinson Elder Services Transportation Fund (Town of Atkinson, 19 Academy Ave., Atkinson, NH 03811), who transported George to his numerous appointments, regardless of the time or weather, and always cheerfully accommodated his request for a Dunkin iced coffee at the drive through.

I worked for George and went into a diabetic coma not knowing I had diabetes. When I awake George was the first one there by my side. He was a special giving man!
