Marjorie "Margie" (Takesian) Walukevich, a lifelong resident of Haverhill, MA passed away peacefully on June 30th, 2024.
Born in Haverhill, she is the youngest daughter of the late Missack and Lydia (LeBlanc) Takesian.
She attended Lowell Avenue School, Moody School, and then graduated from Haverhill High School in 1945. Margie was first employed in the local shoe industry, and was later employed by Western Electric Company and AT&T for 35 years. Prior to retiring, she was an analyst for Ireland. Margie was a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and a retired member of the CWA Local 1365.
Active in her community, she was a voting clerk for Haverhill for many years, a member of the Women's City Club of Haverhill, Sons of Italy of Haverhill, the Sound-A-Bouts Polka Fan Club, and the Young at Heart West Congregational Parish. She was a former member of St. George's Church, and now belongs to St. John the Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Haverhill Class Reunion Committee and the Haverhill High School Booster Club for Track and Football. Her late son Michael was a track star, and was inducted into the Haverhill High Hall of Fame, while her late son Joseph was an outstanding football player, competing both as a linebacker and guard. She was very proud of both her sons, and had many fond memories of going to track meets and football games with her husband John, family and friends.
She loved gardening and took great pride in her vegetables and beautiful flowers each year. She was also a fan of Boston sports, including the Red Sox and Patriots. Margie enjoyed polka dancing and traveling, but she received her greatest pleasure spending time with her family and friends. Margie had many fond memories of her daughter visiting from California and she cherished being with her son Joe and family. They loved taking her out to nice restaurants as well as going for drives to the beach and along the coastline. For her birthday she loved going to Markey's as well as eating Tripoli's pizza at Salisbury Reservation. Her vibrant spirit will live on in all those that knew and loved her. She will be greatly missed.
Margie was the wife of the late John J. Walukevich, who passed away in 1992, and mother of the late Haverhill Police Officer Michael J. Walukevich, who passed away in 1999, and the late Joseph M. Walukevich of Kingston, NH, who passed away in 2021. Margie is survived by her daughter Donna and her husband Jared Sloan of Los Angeles, CA. She especially loved and was very proud of all of her granddaughters, Elishia, Ashley, Breanna, Cayla, Denae and Angela, and her great grandchildren Halona and Guy. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was especially grateful for her good friend Pauline who was always there for her.
Margie was predeceased by all ten of her sisters and brothers, Agnes Takesian, Julia Small, Mary Shahinian, Violet Pelosi, Florence Phillip, Helen Fortin, Oscar Takesian, Edward Takesian, Joseph Takesian, and Harry Takesian.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her calling hours on Wednesday, July 10th from 9-10:30 at the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St. Haverhill.
