George Vincent "G.V." Weston
November 7, 1944 - April 7, 2025
Beverly, MA - George Vincent "G.V." Weston, age 80, of Essex, beloved husband of Elizabeth "Beth" (Pumala) Weston, began his sail home to the Lord in the overnight hours of Monday, April 7, 2025. Born in Sea Isle City, N.J. on November 7, 1944, he was the middle son of the late George and Olga Weston and spent his childhood with four brothers in a small, river-perched house on Old Dam Road in Fairfield, Conn.
G.V. served his country in the Vietnam War as a cryptographic repairman with the army's fourth infantry. He was tremendously proud of being a veteran.
G.V. received his bachelor's degree from Gordon College, a master's in divinity from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and a master's in history from Salem State College. He taught at North Shore Community College, Hamilton-Wenham High School, Essex Christian Academy, and Lexington Christian Academy, where he eventually became dean of students. Returning to Gordon College, G.V. became the senior coordinator and lecturer with their European seminar program. He was also the proprietor of Essex Cleaners Plus and dabbled in selling boats, coffee, and even newspapers - taking on each job with dignity and humility.
He married Beth on June 12, 1970; they met during their overlapping tenures leading a youth group at Black Rock Church in Fairfield. G.V. considered their marriage of almost 55 years his most noteworthy accomplishment. He frequently told Beth, "You are the best thing that ever happened to me!"
G.V. was known for his jovial and corny sense of humor. He was unabashedly friendly and was part of several men's breakfast and prayer groups over the years. A member of the U.S. Power Squadron, G.V. taught boating and navigation courses, and he tutored at the Middleton Correctional Facility. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Essex for more than 50 years - singing in the choir, coordinating their visitation program, serving on the missions committee, and more. G.V. was a member of The Gideons International and volunteered with Young Life, a Christian youth organization, as well as with Second Glance thrift store.
He heartily enjoyed sailing and taking long boating trips with his family; singing loudly; classical music; carpentry and woodwork; peanut butter and chocolate; spending time with grandchildren; wintering in San Diego; and dancing. Even after his stroke in 2001, he enthusiastically returned to the dance floor with his cherished life partner.
In addition to Beth, survivors include his children, Heather Wright and her husband, Jason, of Md., and Scott Weston and his wife, Jennifer (Greeley), of Essex; six grandchildren: Kayle, Isaiah, Ariadne "Arie," Maraya, Ezekiel "Zeke," and Avangaline; and his brothers, Geoffrey Weston and Charlie Weston and his wife, Jodi, of Fairfield; sisters-in-law, Janet Weston and Bertha Weston; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their progeny.
A memorial service will be celebrated at the First Congregational Church of Essex, 39 Main Street, Essex, MA on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Contributions may be made in G.V.'s memory to The Open Door food pantry, in Gloucester: foodpantry.org/ways-to-give/donate, which hosts Second Glance.
