"Beloved Aunt and Friend"
Georgia Jean Barnett passed away on December 25, 2024, at home, attended by family members, after a long battle with breast cancer.
Georgia was born in 1932, in San José, to parents George and Violet Barber (nee Zmarich), and is survived by: nephews David Bethel (Pearl), Tom Bethel (Rachel), William Bethel (Judy), and niece Julie Griffin (Dennis).
Georgia was a graduate of Notre Dame High School (Class of 1950), and San José State University. She made a significant and lasting contribution to the community during her 39 years as a beloved teacher at John Muir Elementary School in Cupertino. She retired in 1993. She was a life-long member and active participant in the Jugo Slav Napredak Club, of which her grandparents were Founders. Georgia was noted for her generous support of family and several charitable organizations over a period of decades.
Georgia was a world traveler, taking many trips and cruises with family, friends, and co-workers to Europe, the Levant, the Caribbean and all over North America. Her family and friends will recall with pleasure Georgia's talents, skills, and fondness for cooking, baking, card games, and storytelling at family-and-friends get-togethers.
A funeral mass will be held at noon on Saturday, January 25th, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 13716 Saratoga Ave., Saratoga, CA 95070. Reception to follow immediately after the mass. All are welcome to either or both.
Donations may be made to the Humane Society of Silicon Valley, 901 Ames Ave., Milpitas, CA 95035.
Georgia Jean Barnett will be fondly remembered and greatly missed.
