Georgia Jefferson Obituary
Georgia Olivia Young was born on February 17, 1955, to Mildred Young and David Way. She was the fourth child of six children, growing up on the Westside of Jacksonville, Florida. She graduated from Edward H. White High School in 1973.
She gave her life to God at a very young age and served diligently in the Church of God by Faith under the guidance of Elder George Matthews Senior. She served as a youth leader, and joint-leader over the Willing Workers club. Her most memorable work in the church was her contributions to each Easter Sunday, for which she wrote/directed plays, and speeches for the children.
Georgia began her professional career after high school, working in the banking industry before she would go on to pursue a fruitful 40-year career at CSX. While at CSX, she worked her way up from administrative assistant to benefits manager, receiving recognition for her hard work and several awards throughout her tenure. During this period, she also went back to college to complete her associates degree, a very important personal goal that she set in the 80's. She retired in 2019 to spend time with and spoil her favorite person: her grandchild.
Some of her hobbies included traveling, reading, photography, drawing, baking, and all around exploring the gift of creativity that God blessed her with. Spending time with her family was always most important to her. She loved a good true crime show and movie time with her kids. She was a loyal Jaguar fan; she didn't care if they lost every game (as long as they beat the Titans).
She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved children: Andrea Jefferson, Kenneth Jefferson, II, Kevin Jefferson and Chelsea Jefferson; grandchild, Isaac Walker; seven siblings, Vivian McBride, Ernestine Bevel (Thomas), Major Way (Melanese), Rayomond Young, Diane Higginbotham (Charles), James Way (Marjorie) and Russell Salley, Jr. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and godchildren that she loved as her own.

I worked with Georgia at CSX. She started one day before me. She was a sweet and kind person who never said a bad word about anyone. We were also neighbors and everything we saw each other we'd say "Hi Neighbor!!!" RIP Georgia
