Joel J. Burroughs was born March 4, 2002, to Dr. Jennifer D. Long and James Nathaniel Burroughs, Jr., in Jacksonville, FL. Joel attended Duval County public schools and Mira Mesa High School in San Diego, California, where he participated in ROTC. Joel graduated from Edward H. White High School in June 2020, where he participated in AP athletics. Joel attended Florida State College of Jacksonville for some vocational training. Joel was employed at Goodwill in Jacksonville, FL a short period of time. Joel was preceded in death by his brothers Joshua Burroughs and Elijah Owens. Joel leaves to mourn Dr. Jennifer D. Long (mother), Johnny Kirby (brother), Jericho Burroughs (twin brother), Jaleel Burroughs (brother), James Burroughs (father) and 14 half-siblings, Bishop Jimmie L. Long, Sr. and Joyce Long (maternal grandparents), Deloris and Isaac Green (paternal grandparents), Felicia James (aunt), Jimmie L. Long, Jr. (uncle), Carol Leon (aunt), Paul Burroughs (uncle), Joshua Moise (Godfather) Ta'Nijah Kirby (niece), and cousins (Sheryll James, Kenneth Salter, Theodist Richardson, Quinton Burney, DeAnnah Burney, Jim'Mora Long, Jimmie Long), a host of great aunts and great uncles, great cousins, and friends. Joel loved to attend church and help others. Joel volunteers with various community organizations within the Duval County area. Joel was a former member of Robert R. Pettiford Council #1-Order of the Knights of Pythagoras, Edward H. White's Senior Men, as well affiliated with the Epilepsy Alliance Florida, Virtuous Woman Inc, and other community organizations.
