Gerald Herman "Jerry" Cox

Gerald Herman "Jerry" Cox, age 83, of Townsend, DE, formerly of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, November 2, 2025.

Born in Wilmington, DE on January 21, 1942, he was a son of the late Herman W. and Marie (Aberger) Cox. Jerry was a graduate of Newark High School with the class of 1960. He proudly served in the United States Air Force. Jerry worked for Yellow Corporation and MBNA until his retirement in 2006. He was a former member of the Sons of the American Revolution and VFW Post 3420 in Newark.

In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey A. Cox (Kirsten); stepmother, Mary (Shipley) Cox; and sisters, Elizabeth Alvarez (Steve) and Jolene Montgomery (William). He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Cheryl A. (Huggler) Cox; daughters, Jennifer A. Cox, Shannon M. Walsh (Jim), and Alison M. Touchton; brothers, John Cox and William Cox (Donna); sisters, Nancy Manley, Carol Lynn Damron, Karen Harris, and Bobbi Mortimer; grandchildren, Tanisha, Kayla, Reilly, Cavan, and Gage; a host of cousins, nephews, and nieces; and his beloved dog, Bailey.

A committal service will begin at 11 am on Monday, November 24, 2025, in the chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE. There will be no reception to follow, but the family appreciates your thoughts and support during this time.
