An extremely loving husband, and an incredibly wonderful father passed peacefully on Sunday, January 28, 2024 while under the care of Hospice of the Valley at Westminster Village, Weyrich Health Care Center. He was diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer in December, 2023.
Jerry was born February 6, 1936, son of Edwin and Valeria (née Bockhorst). He is survived by his brother Roland, his wife Jane (née Cheney), children, Kim (Cunningham) and husband Mike; Pam (Loo) and husband DK; John and wife Helen; and Michael and wife Tina. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, Scott and Thomas Cunningham; Emily and Christopher Loo; Jacob, Alannah, Hazel, and Lily Cuendet; and Julia and Katie Cuendet.
An extremely versatile man, he was a family man, an academician, an athlete, a patron of most of the arts, with an intense love of life. As a father, he was the best one could hope for, always supportive while imparting discipline and high expectations. He
practiced the same qualities in his professional life. When one met Jerry for the first time, they were immediate friends, and he had many! He was one who always had an infectious smile and a warm hug.
Jerry spent most of his professional life as a school superintendent; in Illinois, California, and Arizona. He was superintendent of Phoenix Elementary School District, Deer Valley Unified School District, and was selected Arizona Superintendent of the Year 1997. During his retirement, he was elected to the Maricopa Integrated Health System Governing Board in 2004, serving a four-year term.
A Life Celebration service will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at 1:00pm at Westminster Village, Nuernberg Hall, 12000 N 90th St., Scottsdale, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Westminster Village Endowment Fund, www.wvresortliving.org/giving
