Gerald Louis Dommerman, born June 7, 1954 in Keokuk, Iowa, entered the gates of heaven surrounded by his family on May 16, 2025 at Montrose Health Center at the age of 70.
He married his beautiful wife Fran on May 27, 2000 at First Christian Church in Keokuk, Iowa, where they were faithful members. He was a silly, caring, and generous soul who loved the Lord. Jerry was a loving husband, stepfather, and grandfather. He retired from Charles Industry after 20 years of working in quality control. He was also passionate about outer space, auto racing, coin collecting, and traveling.
After graduating from Keokuk High School in 1972, Jerry received his degree in aerospace engineering from Iowa State University. He used this education to pursue his dreams, working for companies such as Boeing. His proudest moments, however, were during his 10 years addressing the challenges of space shuttle re-entry for NASA. His affection for the canopy of heaven extended beyond the workplace as he chased the enchantment of total eclipses around the world. Jerry's love for high-speed auto racing was satisfied by his attendance at multiple Daytona 500s, Talladega, and more than 40 Indianapolis 500s.
He is survived by his wife Fran (Frazer, Speed) of Keokuk, Iowa, brother, John C. Dommerman, step-daughter, Tonya Stamper, of Palmyra, Missouri, step-son, Shane (Kasey) Speed, of De Soto, MO, his grandchildren, Ashley (Josh) Miles, Arianna Stamper (Andrew Billick), Aaron Stamper (Alexis Groom), Jessica Speed, Noah Ray, and Gabriel Speed. He is also survived by three great grandchildren, Carter, Coraline, and Amias, and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, John H. Dommerman, mother, Leona Mae Dommerman (Wright), and brother, Ralph, in infancy.
A memorial service was held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at the First Christian Church in Keokuk, Iowa.
Visitation was held Tuesday, May 20, 2025 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, Iowa.
Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church of Keokuk or The Smile Train.
