Gerald Michael Hayes, of Brooklyn, Ohio, passed away on December 3, 2024, at the age of 82. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, on October 14, 1942, to the late Lawrence and Aina Hayes, Gerald lived a life marked by devotion to his family, community, and passions.
Gerald was the beloved husband of 61 years to Priscilla (née Giddings). His love and dedication to his family were evident in his many roles as a husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his children, Michael (Shawn) Hayes and Mark (Dawn) Hayes, and his grandson, Henry Hayes, who brought him immense joy. Gerald was preceded in death by his beloved youngest son Matt.
He is also remembered fondly by his siblings: Ronald Hayes, Terrance Hayes, David (Brenda) Hayes, Larry (Teri) Hayes, Daniel Hayes, and Elizabeth "Lisa" (Mike) Conley, and his sister-in-law, Kathy Hayes. Gerald leaves behind many nephews, nieces, and cousins who will forever cherish the memories they shared with him. He was preceded in death by his siblings Laura Hayes and John "Jack" Hayes
Gerald served proudly in the Army National Guard and had a love for golfing, camping, and participating with the Boy Scouts. You could find him supporting the Brooklyn High School Boosters working a shift at the concession stands. He was highly involved with his church, serving as a church officer in various roles, including Deacon, Treasurer, Janitor, and softball player. He retired from a career at Prudential Financial in insurance but continued to work in the accounting and flooring department at Home Depot.
He adored his pets, having many dogs and a few cats over the years. Gerald also had a passion for working on cars and especially loved to fix them. He was a very social person, known for his giving nature and willingness to help anyone in need.
Gerald's life was a testament to the strength of family bonds, and his legacy of love, kindness, and dedication will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

I was young when I first met Jerry, he married Priscilla and was attending Brooklyn Reformed Church. I watched their sons grow up to be gentlemen like their father. Jerry was very active in the church and I enjoyed hearing stories about his grandson, Henry, who he loved dearly. May you be comforted knowing he is at peace. God bless his family and friends.
