Gerald Ray "Jerry" Jackson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at the age of 83, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in 1942 in Oberlin, Ohio, to Laurence and Gertrude (Gauman) Jackson, Jerry spent his early years in Carlisle Township and graduated from Midview High School in 1960.
On October 26, 1963, Jerry married the love of his life, Linda Sooy, in Spencer, Ohio. Together they built a life in Penfield, Ohio, where Jerry established his farm and raised their three sons. He developed a deep connection to the land, raising cattle and living by the values of hard work, integrity, and dedication.
A man of many talents and passions, Jerry enjoyed hunting, trapping, tractor pulling, and showing dairy cattle. He found great joy in watching his grandchildren participate in youth sports and was their proudest supporter.
Jerry's commitment to agriculture and community was evident in his leadership roles with RLCWA, serving on the Board of Directors of the Farmers Co-op in Lagrange, his dedication as a 4-H advisor, and his involvement with Penfield Hot Stove.
Above all, Jerry will be remembered for his unwavering love, generosity, and sharp sense of humor. His quick wit and ability to bring laughter into any room were unmatched. His faith in God and devotion to his family were the cornerstones of his life.
He is survived by his cherished wife of 61 years, Linda Jackson; his sons, Donny (Lorie) Jackson, Ray (Colleen) Jackson, and Justin (Corrine) Jackson; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Carol (Joe) Morgan; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. His iconic stories and loving spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 29, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Parker Funeral Home, 202 East Main St. in Spencer. Funeral service will be Friday, May 30, at 2 p.m. at Spencer First Baptist Church, 302 West Main St. in Spencer. Pastor Travis Mullet will officiate. Burial will follow at Penfield Cemetery.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Jerry may be made to the Lorain County Dairy Youth Auction. Checks can be made out to LCDYA and mailed to 52237 SR 18, Wellington, OH 44090.

Mr. Jackson was the 2nd person to welcome us when we moved across the street. He was a sweet, hard-working man that always took the time to make you feel like you mattered. He always had a mischievous gleam in his eyes and gave great advice about life & the things that are important. His work ethic was unrivaled. One day he helped me get hay for my new ponies & with his direction I ended up hitting the barn door; poking a hole in my husband´s Dodge Dually fender flare. Then when my husband got home quickly ratted me out with that mischievous grin. He was like a favorite grandfather that every little girl looks up to and believes is invincible. I will always fondly remember him and am grateful our paths crossed. Thank you, Gerry.
