Gerald Neumann Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Tomon and Sons Funeral Homes - Middleburg Heights on May 4, 2024.
Gerald "Jerry" Neumann, age 88, passed away on May 1, 2024. Beloved husband of Gloria for nearly 65 years. Loving father of Eric (Kathy) and Valerie (Randy) Hofmann. Grandfather of Kaitlin and Annika Neumann; Natalie and Stephanie Hofmann. Brother of the late Richard (Ann Marie) and late Robert (Clara) Neumann.
Jerry was born in Cleveland, Ohio and later moved to Parma. He graduated from Parma High School where he was active in student government, theatre, football, basketball, golf, and track. He attended Baldwin Wallace College on a football scholarship, but college was interrupted in 1955 when Jerry enlisted in the US Army and served 2 years of active duty. He returned home and met his future bride, Gloria. Being a teacher herself, Gloria suggested he take his first teaching job with North Royalton Schools. Jerry received a BS in education and went on to earn a master's degree. Most of his 31-year career in education was as principal of Olmsted Falls Elementary. Over the years Jerry shared his love of sports with students, coaching football and basketball. He showed his competitive spirit in all he did, but especially on the golf course and at the poker table. Family life was important to Jerry. He was his children's and grandchildren's biggest supporter, attending athletic, dance, and musical events. Jerry enjoyed traveling with family and friends, from short trips with the pop-up camper with his young family, to cruises throughout the world in his retirement.
Family will receive friends Wednesday, May 8, 2024, from 10:30 am until the time of Memorial Service at 12:00 pm - Bethel Lutheran Church, 7171 Pearl Rd, Middleburg Hts.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society (lls.org) or Bethel Lutheran Church (above address).
