Geraldine Stepp Frey June 8, 1947 – June 9, 2025
Geraldine Frey, 78, passed away peacefully into the arms of our Lord at home on Monday, June 9, 2025, after a brief illness. Geri was the daughter of Calvin and Opal Stepp and has lived most of her life as a resident of Henderson County and was a member of Shaw's Creek Baptist Church.
Geri was a loving and devoted wife, daughter, mother, and grandmother to her three children (Kari, Bob, and Emily), three grandchildren (Kate, Matt, and Caryn) and many nieces, nephews, and others she treated as her own. Geri married her best friend and husband of 42 years, Emil "Mick" Frey, in 1983.
Geri and Mick were an inseparable pair that traveled, loved, and shared their lives to the very end. They were partners in the truest sense. Caring for family and loved ones was always her first priority, and did her best to instill her children with the same values and responsibility. Her home was filled with love and generosity and she would occasionally open her home to those in need until they could get on their feet. Geri was also humble and did not seek recognition, only acknowledging what needed to be done.
Geri also loved to cook and compiled a cookbook in the 1980s that was filled with recipes she had collected from friends and family over the years. She would often share her techniques and made excellent cooks out of her three children. Holidays and family gatherings were filled with the cornucopia of goodness to greet visitors with warmth and hospitality. There was rarely a time Geri would be met without a warm hug and a smile.
Geri served as the office manager of Mick's chiropractic practice in Hendersonville and Charlotte before becoming a flight attendant for US Airways in the 1990s. She loved the mountains of Western North Carolina and eventually returned back Hendersonville in 1998 to permanently settle. Geri worked as a manager for Ingles supermarkets until her retirement in 2018. Her final years were spent caring for her mother, Opal, until her passing in 2018 and enjoying a quiet retirement with Mick while tending to her lawn and garden.
Geraldine was preceded by her parents, Opal (2018) and Billy (2003) Duncan of Hendersonville and Calvin Stepp (1984). She is survived by her three children (Kari and Brian Jolly of Richmond, VA, Bob and Ebonii Beckwith of Virginia Beach, VA, and Emily and Kenny Sherlin of
Hendersonville, NC) and grandchildren (Kate Jolly and Matt Jolly of Nashville, TN and Caryn Beckwith of Virginia Beach, VA).
A Memorial Service to honor her life will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 14, 2025, in the Chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home beginning at 10:00 AM. A graveside committal service will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Following the graveside service, the family invites all for a Memorial Gathering of food and fellowship in the Events Room at Forest Lawn Funeral Home.
