Geraldine "Geri" Scherl, age 83 of Sterling Heights, passed away on June 24, 2023.
Geri was born on September 24, 1939 to Stanley and Mildred Niemczyk in Detroit, Michigan. As a teenager, Geri would contract tuberculosis that led her to a lengthy hospital stay. It was in the hospital that she would meet a fellow patient, Richard Scherl, who she quickly became friends with. After Richard's release from the hospital, he would continue to visit Geri and their friendship continues to bloom until they both fell in love. Geri and Richard would marry on September 24, 1960 (her 21st birthday) in a beautiful celebration at Transfiguration Catholic Church. Together, Geri and Richard would celebrate the births of three loved children; Mark, Debbie and Kristi. Family meant the world to Geri, and she cherished every memory and moment she was able to spend with them. Later in her life, Geri would be overjoyed to become a grandmother to her grandchildren Jack, Joshua, and Aidan. In her free time, Geri loved to travel with her beloved husband, especially on cruises or trips to Myrtle Beach and Las Vegas. She loved to visit her favorite casinos, and took many bus tour casino trips with her friends and niece throughout the years. She also loved lunches out, especially at Olive Garden. Geri was known by all, for always being very put together, always dressed classy and beautiful. Throughout her 83 years, Geri truly made the world a better and brighter place because she was apart of it. She will be forever loved and remembered.
Beloved mother of Mark Scherl, Deborah (Richard) Langlois, and Kristi (Kevin) Lawton; proud grandmother of Jack, Joshua, and Aidan. Geri is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, family, grand-dogs, and friends.
Visitation to take place on Tuesday, June 27 from 2:00 – 8:00 PM at Lee-Ellena Funeral Home. Funeral Mass at St. Blase on Wednesday, June 28. Instate, or gathering time, at 9:00 a.m. Mass at 9:30 a.m.
