Gerard Lanning

Gerard James Lanning, aged 83, formerly of Manchester, CT, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on July 16, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at his home in South Windsor.
Born on June 12, 1942, in Brooklyn, New York, Gerard was the beloved son of Jeptha and Helen (Flood) Lanning and the youngest of three brothers. After the early loss of his parents, Gerard was lovingly raised by his grandparents, Richard and Hannah Flood and aunt, Gladys, whose kindness and values shaped his life.
A dedicated student, Gerard attended St. Ann's Academy and graduated from Archbishop Molloy High School in 1959. He continued his education at Fordham University, earning his master's degree, a proud achievement for both him and his family.
Gerard's professional journey reflected his genuine love for people. He began working at Phoenix Mutual Life Insurance Company in 1984, where his natural warmth and interpersonal skills led him to a role in corporate training and ultimately as Director of Human Resources. After his time at Phoenix Investment Partners, Gerard found new purpose as a college recruiting consultant at G.X. Clarke & Company in Jersey City, NJ, working alongside his lifelong best friend until his retirement in 2014. Known as a "people person," Gerard took great joy in offering advice-on resumes, life plans, or simply over a friendly conversation.
Gerard was predeceased by his beloved wife, Judith, and his brothers Jeptha Holland and Richard James Lanning. He is survived by his devoted daughter, Anne Marie Reggio, and her husband, Andre. Gerard, affectionately known as "Pops", will be deeply missed by his adoring grandchildren, Liam and Hannah Reggio, who brought him endless pride and joy.
Gerard's kindness, humor, and unwavering support will be lovingly remembered by his extended family, many friends, and all who had the privilege to know him. He leaves a legacy of compassion, integrity, and a genuine interest in the stories of others.
Relatives and friends are invited to a celebration of Christian Faith and Hope at St. Patrick-St. Anthony, 285 Church Street, Hartford, CT, 06103 at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 24th. Calling hours will be held at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 W.
