Gerry Cohoon Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mills Funeral Home, Peters & Murray Chapel - Grand Ledge on Jan. 23, 2026.
Gerry Kim Cohoon, known as Kim to his loved ones and friends, of Grand Ledge, MI, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on January 22, 2026, in Portland, Michigan. Born on January 10, 1953, in Lansing, Michigan, Kim was a model of strength and deep convictions to all who knew him throughout his 73 years of life.

Kim's journey began as the cherished son of the late Gerald and Nanette (Duncan) Cohoon, he grew up alongside his siblings Craig (Karen Mason) Patterson and John (Debi) Cohoon. Sadly, preceded in death by his infant sister, Jo Lynette.

A devoted husband, Kim, shared 37 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Sheila Cohoon. Together, they raised a beautiful family, including their children, Dustin (Heather) Wells, Gerald (Ashley) Cohoon, and Onalee (Andrew Barlow) Cohoon. Kim's legacy continues through the lives of his adored grandchildren: Adalynn, Easton, Weston, Brooks, Reid, and Hayes, who will always remember their grandfather's love and laughter.

Kim was a Vietnam veteran having served in the United States Army. After retiring from General Motors, he then worked at the Lansing Federal Building for the General Services Administration with the same integrity and work ethic that defined his character. He then owned and operated the Corner Cone in Grand Ledge.

An avid outdoorsman, Kim found solace and joy in the embrace of nature. Whether he was hunting, cutting wood, or simply planting, his connection to the earth was evident. His love for animals was profound. Kim also had a passion for remodeling and flipping homes, a pursuit that showcased his remarkable handiness and creative vision.

As we bid farewell to Kim, we do so with gratitude for the time we shared and the memories we created. His life was a beautiful example of devotion, hard work, and the simple joys that make a life well-lived. Though he will be deeply missed, Kim's legacy will endure in the lessons he taught, the love he gave, and the lives he touched.

Cremation has taken place and there will be no services. Donations can be made in loving memory of Kim to Cure PSP, 325 Hudson Street, 4th Floor New York, NY 10013 in support of the cure of progressive supranuclear palsy disease. For online condolences please visit www.millsfuneral.com
