Gerard (Gerry) Mortimer O'Mahony, 97, of Dalton, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, April 26, 2024. Gerry was born on September 27, 1926, in Drogheda, Ireland, to the late Timothy and Annie O'Mahony. He grew up in Dublin, Ireland. He is also preceded in death by his daughter, Rebecca Joan O'Mahony, and his siblings, James O'Mahony, Timothy O'Mahony, and Charlie O'Mahony. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Rebecca Ann Walthour O'Mahony; children, Kathleen (Jim) Meadows, Maureen (Ross) Rogers, and Sean O'Mahony; grandchildren, Matthew (Brittany) Meadows, Clint (Julia) Meadows, Allison Rogers, and Michelle Rogers (Vicente Moreno, fiancé); great-grandchildren, Colton Meadows, Lexi Meadows, and Willa Meadows; sister, Margaret Higgins; and sisters-in-law, Ann O'Mahony and Faye (Melvin) Nunez.
From 1942-1947, Gerry attended the St. Kevin Technical College in Dublin, Ireland. There he earned a degree in Chemistry with a minor in Art. A United States veteran, he was drafted into the US Army during the Korean War. He served at Camp Gordon, GA, Fort Bragg, NC, and Fort Benning, GA. From 1952 to 1955, he worked as a textile chemist at Fred Whitaker Company in Philadelphia, PA. In 1970, he relocated to Dalton, GA and established himself as a leading textile chemist consultant. Throughout his career, he consulted for various companies, holding ownership and developing several with additional patents to his name.
Gerry met the love of his life, Rebecca, on July 4, 1952. He and Rebecca have left a legacy of love to all who have witnessed their 69 years of marriage. He cherished spending time with all his family and his many friends. A lifelong adventurer, he travelled the world for both business and pleasure. He was also passionate about sailing, painting, reading, and arrowhead hunting. He found great joy in his second home on Pensacola Beach, FL. Gerry also played a pivotal role in establishing the Dalton Recreation Department's soccer program. He coached youth soccer for many years, helping to cultivate the thriving soccer scene Dalton enjoys today, with numerous local and national championships.
The family would like to express their appreciation for the compassionate and excellent care provided to them by Amedisys Hospice. They especially thank his "caretakers" who were "angels" to Gerry and his entire family.

A true family man, proud of his children and grandkids.
I enjoyed having Gerry as a client
and friend.
