At an early age, Gertie accepted Christ as her Savior, was baptized, and became a member of St. John Baptist Church in Toano. After moving to Charles City County, she began attending Little Elam Baptist Church.
She worked at Owens Illinois Glass Factory for over twenty-five years. Gertie loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed cooking and could always be counted on for a good laugh and great food. Family and friends enjoyed her passion for cooking and helping anyone in need. She also loved to dance (Dancing Gertie). Gertie loved people and was like a mother to many. She was loved and cherished and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Hampton; brother, Herbert White; and sisters, Lillie Mae Cooper, Pearline Cowles, and Caldonia White.
She leaves to treasure precious memories with her three daughters, Patricia Brown (Victor), Jackie Coney, and Sylvia Johnson; three sons, Thomas Wynne (Hazel), Lawrence Wynne, and DeWayne Wynne; four grandchildren, Terrell Wynne (Shaunte), Sherrelle Dabnay (Jermaine), D' Andre Hardy (Tonya), and Katrina White; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rebecca Ann Cary (Levi) and Marilyn Givens; brother, George White (Lavinya); brother-in-law, Oliver Hampton; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at Little Elam Baptist Church, Charles City. Live stream will be available at the beginning of the service. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Hampton may be viewed on Tuesday beginning at noon in the church.

I remember, Aunt Gertie's laugh and how my mom and her talked on the phone for hours, laughing and talking, a good women will be missed. I sent my love blessings to the Family. Love Nita
