Gilbert Dale Patterson, 85, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away on September 27, 2025 at Testa Family Hospice House. Born July 17, 1940 in Cleveland County, NC, he was the son of the late Leonard and Kathleen Lovelace Patterson and was also preceded in death by his two brothers, Jeff and Isaac "Ike" Patterson. Gilbert was the perfect example of a hard worker who took immense pride in doing the job right, no matter what it may be. Whether he was applying coats of paint with intense scrutiny, lovingly manicuring a lawn, or contracting with Southern Bell, you could be sure that Gilbert was expending every effort to make sure his work was up to his standards and done to the best of his ability. He was industrious across decades as a painter, subcontractor in telecommunications, operator of Gilbert Patterson Lawn Service, and employee of Cleveland County Schools. Gilbert was heavily involved with his community as a lifelong member of Patterson Grove Baptist Church, a member of the Bethware Progressive Club, and a founding member of the Oak Grove Volunteer Fire Department. He could fix just about anything, and even if he couldn't, he'd jerry-rig it. Gilbert will be fondly remembered as a dedicated husband, loving father, doting Papaw, and a good and loyal friend.
