Gilbert Proske Obituary
Gilbert Harold Proske was born on May 9, 1959 in Houston, Texas, the son of Gilbert and Clara (Phillips) Proske. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Houston and graduated from Scarborough High School in Houston. On June 27, 1981, Gilbert was united in marriage to Becky Schautschick at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings. He worked as a sheetrocker with Edward Mitschke before beginning his career as an auto mechanic. Gilbert worked at Bob Tillery Ford, which later became Ultimate Ford, and Lopez Auto Clinic in Giddings. He was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings where he served as an usher for many years. He enjoyed fishing, attending Swap meets and putting together models. He will be remembered for his patience and eye for detail along with his ever-present smile.
Gilbert passed away the evening of Saturday, July 6, 2024 at St. David's Medical Center in Austin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Clara Proske and his parents-in-law, Delward and Betty Schautschick.
Gilbert is survived by his wife, Becky Proske of Giddings; his sister, Dora Reid of Houston; two nieces, Cassie McGarvey & her husband, James of Friendswood and Ashley Atondo of Frisco; two great nieces and a great nephew, Clara, Lorelei, and William McGarvey all of Friendswood; his sister-in-law, Sandra Tomanetz and her husband, Dale of Giddings, and two brothers-in-law, Randy Schautschick and Rocky Schautschick both of Giddings.
Pallbearers will be Dale Tomanetz, Joel Lopez, Steven Lehmann, Ronnie Lehmann, Troy Rumuly, and Gary Spivey.
Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings or to the charity of one's choice.
