Gilford “Gip” Whisenhunt, 86, of Mount Ida, AR passed away August 25, 2024. Gip was born May 19, 1938, in Sims, AR to Witt and Alma (Gibbs) Whisenhunt. He is preceded in death by both parents, granddaughter, Christina Whisenhunt, and his father and mother-in-law, Argus and Sybil O’Neal, that treated him like their own.
Gip is survived by his wife, Diane Whisenhunt of 63 years, sons, Bryan Whisenhunt (Donna) and Mark Whisenhunt, daughter, Tamara McKee, grandchildren, Allison Englert (Steven), Michael McKee (Erin), Grant McKee, Patricia Southall (Turner), great grandchildren, Matthew and Rory McKee, Emmett Englert, and Piper Southall, brother, Russell Whisenhunt (Bonnie), nephews and a host of other family and friends.
Gip was a member of the US Army Reserve. Gip co-owned and operated Piggly Wiggly, later called AG Supermarket, after selling Supermarket, he opened a Sears Catalog Store. Gip also sold Tractors, Equipment and had Auto Sales. Gip was a Tyson poultry farmer of 31 years and a life long cattle farmer of 56 years.
Gip loved family gatherings, vacations, deer camps with lots of friends, classic cars, and class reunions. Gip had great comfort in his pastor and friend, Bro. Paul Burke, and the Faith Tabernacle Church family.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 29, 2024, 6 to 8p.m at Thornton Funeral Home. Graveside service Friday, August 30, 2024 at 10am at Rocky Valley Cemetery on Southfork Rd in Mount Ida, AR. Bro. Greg Bland will be officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Thornton Funeral Home in Mount Ida. Guest register at www.thorntonfh.com.
