Dr. Giuseppe Bevilacqua, 94, of Fairfield, CT and formerly of Port Jefferson, NY, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, July 7, 2025. He was the beloved husband of Teresa (DeCicco) Bevilacqua.
Giuseppe was born in Italy and came to the United States in 1959. The eldest child of Francesco Paolo Bevilacqua and Filomena Berenga, he grew up in a small town in northern Italy, Cernizza (currently in Slovenia). The family lived through the horrors of World War II, which had an impact on his outlook on life. After the war, the family moved to the beautiful Mediterranean seaside town of Formia. He was educated at the University of Rome from which he received his medical degree. While in Formia, during the summer of 1951, he met the love of his life, Teresa, to whom he was married for 67 wonderful years. The couple moved to the U.S. in 1959 and Giuseppe completed his residency in anesthesiology at Hackensack Medical Center. This was followed by a long and exemplary career at two hospitals, St. Charles and J.T. Mather Memorial, both in Port Jefferson. He was everyone's favorite anesthesiologist, getting requests for his services from many patients and his own fellow doctors (the ultimate compliment) over the years. He served the community with passion and dedication until his retirement in 1993.
Fondly known as "Peppe" to everyone, he was the definition of kind. His kindness and the way he treated others – family, friends, colleagues, and patients, was something people always recognized and respected as unique and special. Everyone loved Peppe because he loved everyone.
Peppe was also the consummate family man. Family always came first, and he instilled the love of family in his children and grandchildren. He maintained very close ties to Italy and the large remaining family there with frequent visits. He also planted this same love for Italy in his children and grandchildren, who continue to travel to Formia regularly to this day.
Peppe was also an avid sportsman. He loved tennis, golf, and skiing and taught his children these same sports which became the basis for many happy family experiences. Travel was also something he and Teresa loved, making many memories in both the U.S. and Europe. In addition, they spent many winters in Pompano Beach Florida where they enjoyed the company of good friends over the years.
His marriage to Teresa was an amazing, life-long love story. She remained fiercely dedicated to him in his older years and in his failing health, with an indefatigable energy that belied her age.
He is survived by his loving children who will always remember him as the "Best Dad Ever": Paula Bevilacqua and her husband Frank Gasparro, Lisa Bevilacqua, and Joseph Bevilacqua and his wife Jennifer. He will also be missed by his grandchildren, Alessandro Gasparro, Marco Gasparro and his wife Jenna Scherma, Ariana Sigel, Halli Sigel and her husband Graham Raabe, Luca Bevilacqua, and Siena Bevilacqua. He was predeceased by his brothers Bruno, Enrico, and Pietro and his son-in-law Morrie Sigel.
The legacy of love that Peppe left will remain forever in the hearts of the family and friends who were lucky enough to know him.
