Giuseppe Scarlata Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

Guiseppe "Joe" Scarlata was called home to the Lord, on December 1, 2025, passing away peacefully at home. He is survived by his wonderful wife of 57 years, Colomba Scarlata.
Born in Termini Imerese, Sicily to Giovanni and Maria Scarlata, Joe had a strong sense of faith and family. He always welcomed all into his home.
Joe is preceded in death by his brother, Salvatore Scarlata and one sister, Antonella Valenza.
Joe is also survived by his children, Teresa (Doug) Flye, John Scarlata and Trish (Chris) Lewis. Grandchildren, Joseph (Lauren) Maioli, Kiara (Josh) Slayton, Anna Lewis, Melina and Logan Maioli and bonus grandson Paul Flye. Sisters, Lina Bisesi, Maria Sansone and Rose Vercolen along with in-law's, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Joe and Colomba both immigrated from Italy and met here in the states on a blind date, where they built a life in the Rochester area making many memories with friends and family.
Along with being a devout Catholic, he was also a proud member of the BAC Local 3, Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers where he believed everyone should be treated fairly and equally.
One of his favorite past times was spending time in the garden. He took pride in growing his vegetables and flowers. Keeping seeds from this year's harvest to use next year so that the quality would be just as good.
Joe taught us the true fundamentals of Italian values: a strong emphasis on family, a love for beauty and good food and a connection to one's specific birth region.
Joe felt strongly about always helping others, may we keep his legacy alive.
Friends may call to the funeral chapel (1031 Ridge Rd., Webster) Friday, December 5th from 3-7 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on December 6th at 10 am at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church (783 Hard Rd., Webster). Interment immediately following at Ascension Garden. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Webster Association of Senior Program Supporters (WASPS), 1350 Chiyoda Dr, Webster, NY 14580.
