MARSHALL – Gladys Wiebe Butzbach, age 93, of Marshall passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at Mission Hospital.
Mrs. Butzbach was born on September 8, 1931, in Foam Lake, Saskatchewan, Canada to the late Paul Joseph and Sara Balzar Wiebe. One of nine children born into a preacher- teacher-farming family, they traveled by horse drawn wagon and moved to Delta, British Columbia to a dairy farm in her childhood. Gladys put herself through nursing school and moved to California. There in Visalia she met her husband, Clarence Benjamin Butzbach, who worked in the lab at the same doctor’s office where she was a nurse. The couple fell in love and had their two wonderful children, Sherrilyn and Bradley. Later on when grandchildren came to the family, Gladys dedicated her backyard and garage to a wonderland of fun learning and playing activities for their frequent visits.
Her husband Clarence passed in 2007, and she was also preceded in death by two brothers. She moved to the mountains of North Carolina to be close to her family in 2015, where she attended Brookstone Church and enjoyed her Life Group there. She also was a part of a crocheting group, showcasing her talents. She will be remembered as an involved, loving, and devout woman, always caring for her family and community.
Surviving is her daughter, Sherrilyn Neill and husband James; son, Bradley Butzbach and wife Sandie; six brothers and sisters; grandchildren, Ryan Neill, Emerald Greene and husband Dylan, Aiden Neill, Sean Neill, Kasey Holm and husband Ben, and Jacob Nelson and wife Madelyne; one great grandchild, Jack; and many, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2pm on Friday, June 27, 2025 at Brookstone Church, 90 Griffee Rd, Weaverville, NC 28787.
