Glenda Sue Comer, age 88, of Casey, IL passed away peacefully at 2:42 a.m. on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at Heartland Nursing and Rehabilitation, Casey, IL. She was born July 4, 1934 in Greenup, IL the daughter of Byron W. Emrich and Ila Naomi Button Emrich. On December 26, 1954 she married Kenneth Gene Comer in Casey, IL; he passed away on December 18, 2003.
Survivors include her daughter, Deborah Woiwode and husband Pat of Delavan, IL; son, Stanley Comer and wife Robin of Ardmore, OK; daughter, Carole Shaffner of Findlay, OH; brother, Rev. Richard "Rick" Emrich and wife Loretta of Casey, IL; grandchildren, Bryan Tomm and wife Suzy, Geoff Tomm, Sarah Tomm, Evan Comer, Chase Comer, George "Ben" Shaffner and wife Steph, Kaleb Shaffner, Alana Dennis and husband Myrick, and Samantha Shaffner; great grandchildren, Braden, Brett, Caleb, Andrew, Clara, Nehemyah, Lucia, James, Grace, and Reid; several cousins, nieces, and nephews; and her loving church family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son-in-law, George Shaffner.
Sue was a 1952 graduate of Casey High School. She continued her education at Illinois Community College for two years and attended the University of Illinois for one year. Sue was a bookkeeper for the family farm and Pork Producers. She also worked in the Casey School District for five years as Instructional Secretary and as a Special Ed Teacher's Aide. Sue was a faithful eighty-year member of the Macedonia Southern Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school class, sang in the choir, and was the president of the Women's Group for sixteen years. Sue was also a member of the Casey Women's Club for over thirty years and served as former president. She was also a 4-H leader for many years and the former president of the Gideon Auxiliary and Casey Camp. Sue loved her family dearly and enjoyed spending time and holidays with her loved ones and her church family.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2022 at the Macedonia Baptist Church, Casey, IL with Brother Randy Black officiating. Burial will follow in the Macedonia Cemetery, Casey, IL. Visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Saturday prior to the service at the Macedonia Baptist Church, 1075 CO RD 2400 E, Casey, IL 62420.
