Glenda Michelle Giles, affectionately known as Gigi to many, left this world peacefully on October 27, 2025, in
West Point, Virginia. Born on October 3, 1971, in Angier, North Carolina, Glenda spent her early years playing softball, running around the Auction house, and tearing up the back roads of her small country town.
Glenda had an unbridled passion for the medical field starting with riding on the back of an ambulance for several years where she learned to hone her skills for her future in nursing. Becoming a registered nurse was one of her proudest accomplishments, and she spent a good part of her career in the cardiac intensive care unit. She saved lives with the kind of skill and compassion that made patients feel like they were in the hands of a superhero-minus the cape, but plus a keen sense of humor to ease the tension.
Glenda was the ultimate Minnesota Vikings fan, belting out "SKOL" louder than anyone at game time. She'd argue that purple and gold were the colors of royalty, and honestly, who could disagree with her infectious enthusiasm?
Her true passion, though, was her family-especially those grandkids who knew her as Gigi and who she loved fiercely. Whether it was playing ball with them or spoiling them with unconditional love, Gigi made sure every hug came with a side of laughter. She leaves behind her devoted wife, Carrie Giles, the love of her life and the other half of her heart; her children S. Tyler Morehead and Faith McAndrews (Paul); grandchildren Kenna, Beckett, Korbin, Kira, Charlotte, Malakai, and Crew; sister Sherrie Lynn Matthews (Barry); aunts Olevia Miller (Larry), Linda Honeycutt, and Darlene Autry; nieces Bridgett Goldner (Erin) and Casey Reed (Chris); great-nieces and nephews Rylee, Cameron, Avery, and Baby Reed; bonus daughter Michelle Bianca; plus numerous cousins and extended family who all got upgraded to best friend status thanks to her magnetic charm. Glenda was predeceased by her parents, Nancy R. Giles and Charles Glenn Giles, who no doubt welcomed her with open arms and a good laugh.
And let's not forget her furry sidekicks: her loyal pup Shatze, who was by her side till the end, and her dearly missed dogs Chewy and Harley who greeted her with wagging tails. Glenda's love for animals was as big as her heart, and she could turn a stray into a spoiled family member faster than you could say "treat."
Glenda was the kind of person who became friends with everyone she met: funny enough to crack you up during tough times, kind and compassionate like a walking hug, and a natural caretaker who made the world feel a little better and brighter. She taught us all that life's too short not to laugh at the chaos. Throughout her entire life, Glenda turned many ordinary moments into extraordinary memories with everyone she met.
A Celebration of Glenda's Life will be held on November 15, 2025, at 2:00pm at the Arbor's Community Building located at 7661 New Arbor Drive, New Kent, VA 23124. True to form, she'd want it to be a party, not a somber affair. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local animal shelter in her memory; she'd love knowing more tails are wagging because of her.
It's been said "that time passes differently in heaven. By the time they turn around to look for you, you'll be right behind them."
SKOL, Glenda, we'll carry your laughter and love forever.
