Glenda Dennis Herring, 84, of Lake Park, died on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at Langdale Hospice House. A lifelong resident of this area, she was born in Lowndes County to the late Vernon & Ava Nell Pipkins Dennis on November 15, 1939. Glenda graduated from Naylor High School in 1957, where she played basketball. Soon after high school, she met Ealie Herring, and they were married on November 15, 1958. She was a devoted homemaker who raised 5 boys and helped her husband on the farm. Glenda was known for her hard work and no non-sense attitude, and she was also a mother and mentor to many who helped the family working on the farm. She attended Unity Primitive Baptist Church with family members in the past.
Survivors include four sons and three daughters in law, Danny & Joy Herring, Gene Herring & special friend Sandy Estes, Russell & Susie Herring and Joey & Lisa Herring, all of Lake Park; 14 grandchildren- John, Ashlei, Jennifer, Kacey, Jordan, Joley, Matt, Sam, Ben, Kelsi, Kayla, Landon, Levi & Alexis. Also surviving are her sister & brother in law, Judy & Jimmy Whiddon of Lake Park; sister in law, Charlotte Dennis of Lake Park, sister in law & brother in law, Marilyn & Huron Nichols of Lake Park, brother in law, Maynard Herring of Valdosta; 15 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ealie Herring, her son Stan Herring and her brother Larry Dennis.
The funeral for Mrs. Herring will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at McLane Lakewood Funeral Home. Brother Jimmy Noles and Brother Cary Kight will officiate. Burial will follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends at McLane Lakewood Funeral Home on Monday evening, September 16, 2024, from 6 until 8 pm.
