Glenn Schmid Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Beinhauer Family Funeral Homes - Peters Township - McMurray on Dec. 24, 2025.
Age 82, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at home on December 21, 2025.
Born on September 15, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois, Glenn was the beloved son of the late William J. and Helen (Kolenda) Schmid. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Mary Lynn (Schmid) Casper.
Glenn was a proud graduate of both University of Illinois and Lehigh University, where he earned a master's degree in Metallurgical Engineering. He began his professional career with Armco in Cincinnati, Ohio, before moving to western Pennsylvania to work at Bechtel Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory in West Mifflin, PA. Glenn dedicated 25 years to Bettis before retiring, leaving behind a legacy of intelligence, integrity, and commitment to his field.
On August 26, 1972, Glenn married the love of his life, Jeanne A. Ulrich, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Together they built a life centered on family, learning, and service to their community.
Glenn had a deep appreciation for history and nature. He was an avid gardener, loved reading, going fishing, and generously volunteered his time as a docent at both the Fort Pitt Museum and Meadowcroft Rockshelter, sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm with visitors of all ages.
Glenn is survived by his devoted wife, Jeanne (Ulrich) Schmid of Bethel Park; his daughters Laura (Schmid) Baraniak and her husband Sean of San Diego, California, and Cynthia (Schmid) Steely and her husband Lee of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was a proud grandfather to Thaddeus, Kai, Winter, and Sage, who brought him immense joy.
He is also survived by his brother Raymond Schmid and his wife Karen of Kauai, Hawaii, his niece, Katie (Schmid) Evans, and other extended family members.
Family and friends are welcome to attend visitation on December 28, 2025, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Beinhauer Family Funeral Home, 2828 Washington Road, McMurray, PA 15317. A Blessing Service will be held on December 29, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Beinhauer, followed by interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Glenn will be remembered for his quiet kindness, intellectual curiosity, dedication to service, and deep love for his family. His presence will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
