Glennis Bennett Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home - Hammond on Dec. 23, 2025.
Glennis, age 76, went to his Heavenly Home on Monday, December 22, 2025, at North Oaks Medical Center. He was a resident of Albany, LA. Glennis spent 30 years serving the Baton Rouge Fire Department, retiring as Assistant Chief after a career he was deeply proud of. Known for his steady leadership and caring heart, he gave his life to protecting and helping others. A proud U.S. Army veteran, his sense of duty and service shaped the man he was both on and off the job. Glennis' faith was the foundation of his life, and he served faithfully as a member and deacon of Bethlehem Baptist Church. After retiring early, he and his beloved wife embraced a life of adventure, traveling across the country together and doing what they loved most, meeting people. They made countless friends along the way, many of whom remained dear to them through the years. Glennis will be remembered for his warmth, his generosity, his love of family, and the way he made others feel welcome wherever he went. His legacy of service, faith, and friendship lives on in the hearts of all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Hazel Inez Stewart Bennett; son, Scott Bennett (Kelly); grandchildren, Calvin Bennett, Jason Duncan; brother, Delmar Bennett (Barbara); mother-in-law, Elnora Stewart; sisters-in-law, Gail Stewart, Kathy S. King; brother-in-law, Emmett Stewart; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Glennis is preceded in death by his parents, Lucille and Calvin Bennett; and father-in-law, Emmett Langford Stewart Sr.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home at 12012 Hwy 190 W. Hammond, LA 70401 on Sunday, December 28, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Alton Foster will officiate with interment to follow in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery.
