Gloria Maxine Gassett

Gloria Maxine Gassett, age 69, of Cataula, GA, passed away with her loving family at her side on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at Piedmont Regional Midtown in Columbus, GA.
"Maxine," as she was known to most, was born on February 15, 1955 in Columbus, GA. She was the daughter of Willie Ben Taylor, Jr. and Sara Frances McRae Taylor. She was a lifelong resident of Harris county. She held many jobs throughout her life, but the one she took the most pride in was being a horticulturist with Linwood Florist in Ellerslie. She was a lifelong member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, where she served as the church pianist and organist for many years. She was an avid and talented pianist. She enjoyed caring for her flowers and gardening. She was an excellent cook and could make the best home southern cooking, mainly her banana pudding and dressing. She was a gifted seamstress, who taught others how to sew. She loved the outdoors and going fishing. She was also a noted animal lover. Above all these talents and hobbies, she most enjoyed raising her family and caring for them. The memories she made with them in her life were her most treasured possession. She is preceded in death by her parents; a son, Phillip Eugene Wright; grandson, Ryan Taylor Wright, II; Uncle William Leon Hudson and Aunt Mildred T. Hudson.
She is survived by her daughter, Tammy Lynn (Les) Groves of Lindale, GA; sons, Gary Heath (Kimberly Ann) Wright, Sr. of Catuala, GA and Ryan Taylor (Crystal) Wright of Manchester, GA; sister, Wanda Taylor (Jacob) Blackmon of Columbus, GA; father of her children and former spouse, Gary Phillip Wright of Pine Mountain, GA; grandchildren, Cody Eickleberry, Bryce Eickleberry, Adam Eickleberry, Belita Wright, Gary Heath Wright Jr., Kane Wright, Amber Wright, Haley Wright, Jeremy Shepard, Dalton Wright, Rose Wright, and Kirsten Wright; and twenty-two great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 15, 2025 in the Chapel of Cox Funeral Home - Hamilton. The Pastor Lee Thompson officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation at the funeral home from 1:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M.. Interment will follow in the Rehobeth Cemetery in Cataula.
