John Aaron Hughes, age 79 of Hamilton, GA, passed away Thursday, October 2, 2025 at Columbus Hospice in Columbus, GA.

Mr. Hughes was born February 7, 1946 in Columbus, GA, the son of Howard Hughes and Mary Magdaline Hughes. He was a 1964 graduate of Central High School in Phenix City, AL. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on March 2, 1966, and served four years aboard the aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk. After his discharge from the Navy, he went to live in Miami, FL, where he worked a number of years in construction as a crane operator. Afterwards, he invented and patented a hurricane and security panel for windows and doors. He operated the business, known as "Hughes Wind Shield Manufacturing", in North Naples, FL.

Mr. Hughes enjoyed and was very dedicated to his work. He also enjoyed fishing and dancing. He met his present wife, Maggie, at a dance in February, 2010, and they were married in 2013. They danced until he passed. They both attended Community Chapel in Pine Mountain Valley.

He is survived by his wife, Maggie Hughes of Hamilton, GA; a daughter, Melinda Mains; a sister, Sandra Sloyer; grandchildren; great-grandchildren and a niece and nephew.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Mr. Hughes will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at Community Chapel in Pine Mountain Valley, GA, with Pastor Rick Lipp officiating.

The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 1:30 PM until 2:00 PM at the church.

A private inurnment will take place at a later date at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery in Ft. Mitchell, AL.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Community Chapel.

Cox Funeral Home, Hamilton, GA is assisting the family with arrangements.
