Gloria L. Gonzalez, age 76, a longtime resident of
Freer, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, October 10, 2025, following a sudden illness. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Gloria was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ernesto P. Gonzalez, with whom she shared many wonderful years of marriage.
She is survived by her daughter Katherine M. Garcia (Larry Garcia) of
Freer, Texas; her son, James Daniel Gonzalez (Videlia Zinn) of
Freer, Texas; and her grandchildren Sergio Galvan (Natalie Galvan) of Bishop, Texas, Estevan Galvan of
Freer, Texas, Analisa Middleton (Sylvester Middleton) of Alice, Texas, and Rebeka Gonzalez of
Freer, Texas. Olivia Rose Gonzalez and three of her step-granddaughters, Skylar Zinn, Stormy Garcia from
Freer, Texas and Kimberly Garcia from Robstown, Texas. She has one sister, Nelda Kendall (Larry Kendall) and their children Erik Kendall (Will Goss) and Kevin Kendall (Danielle Kendall) and son, Elijah Kendall all of Oklahoma.
Her great-grandchildren include Za'ryah Middleton, Za'Kyah Middleton, Zavion Middleton, Francisco Arredondo, Steven Jayce Galvan, Asher Gray Galvan, Kris Dayton Galvan, Cecilia Elaine Galvan, Milo and Pixie Garcia and Kai Vega. Gloria is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and her sole surviving sister-in-law, Linda Gonzalez and one step sister, Kelly Ryland and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecilio and Olivia Alaniz; her brother, Carlos (Bobby) Luna; and her step-grandson, Brandon Garcia. She was also preceded in death by her husband's siblings: Fabianita (Abel) Guajardo, Delia (Luis) Cantu, Sofia (Dudley) Broussard, Elma (Domingo) Marquez, Dalia (Ray) Pantalion, Lily (Joe) Adami, Pepe (Minnie) Gonzalez, Corina (Juan) Flores, Amador Gonzalez, Erineo (Omedi) Gonzales, and Eloy Gonzalez, along with several nieces, nephews, and great nephews.
Gloria worked for several years at Western Auto before joining ARCO Oil and Gas (BP Oil and Gas) as a Roustabout, where she worked for about ten years before retiring. After retirement, she dedicated her life to her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She enjoyed playing softball, tennis, and cards with family and friends. In her younger years, she was a Catholic Daughter and volunteered with CCD. Gloria had a passion for cooking and loved spending quality time with her family. She took great pride in supporting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in all their activities.
Known affectionately as "Mom Gloria," she was a mother figure to many-always opening her heart and home to those in need. Her kindness, warmth, and unwavering love for others will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at the Garza Funeral Home in
Freer, Texas. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M. that same evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, October 15, 2025. at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in
Freer, Texas. Graveside Services and Interment will follow at the Hahl Memorial Cemetery in
Freer, Texas.
